How it works
Marriage Allowance is a tax relief for married couples or civil partners. If one of you earns less than the personal allowance (£12,570) and the other is a basic-rate taxpayer, you can transfer some of your unused tax-free allowance reducing your joint tax bill.
You check your eligibility
One partner must earn less than the personal allowance (£12,570), while the other is a basic-rate taxpayer.
We calculate your rebate
We check which tax years you’re eligible for and submit the claim on your behalf, backdated up to 4 years.
We transfer your tax rebate
Once your rebate is approved, we transfer it straight to your account. No forms, no follow-ups, just money back, fast.

Frequently asked questions
What is Marriage Allowance and how does it work?
Marriage Allowance lets a lower-earning partner transfer part of their personal tax allowance to their spouse or civil partner, reducing their tax bill.
Who qualifies for Marriage Allowance?
You must be married or in a civil partnership. One partner must earn less than the personal allowance (£12,570) and the other must be a basic-rate taxpayer. If the higher earner pays tax at the higher or additional rate, the transfer is not available.
Can I backdate Marriage Allowance?
Yes. Claims can be backdated up to 4 years. We check each tax year separately, because the personal allowance and the amount you can transfer are set year by year — so a four-year total will not be exactly four times the current-year figure.
What if I stopped working during the tax year?
You may still qualify. If one of you stopped working, went part-time or earned less due to maternity, sick leave or redundancy, your income for that year may have fallen below the personal allowance — which is exactly when the transfer becomes worth making.
Do both partners need to apply?
The transfer is made by the lower-earning partner, so it is their details we need to confirm the claim. We will tell you exactly what is required from each of you before anything is sent to HMRC.
