If your job takes you to more than one site in a single day, you may be entitled to claim mileage tax relief. Many workers don’t realise that travelling between different locations for work, even on the same day, can qualify for a tax rebate.

Who qualifies for multi-location mileage claims?

You may be eligible if:

  • You’re taxed under PAYE
  • You use your personal vehicle for work travel
  • Your employer reimburses you less than 45p per mile (or not at all)

This is common for:

  • Mobile carers
  • Engineers and contractors
  • Retail area managers
  • Health and social care staff

What types of journeys can I claim for?

You can claim for:

  • Travel between job sites during the same shift
  • Moving between client appointments
  • Driving from a temporary office to a secondary work site

You cannot claim for your commute from home to your first permanent workplace.

Example mileage claim:

  • You visit three locations in one day
  • Total travel: 40 miles
  • Employer pays 15p per mile
  • HMRC rate is 45p per mile
  • Rebate claimable on 30p x 40 miles = £12 that day

Multiply this across the year and you could be owed hundreds.

Do I need to track every trip?

No. TaxBax can help estimate your total annual mileage based on your job role, area covered and how often you travel.
